Many people may know the Korean flag, they bear it in celebrations events or also wear it on their outfit, but some might not know the significant and background of the Korean flag which is very interesting, and it may hold deep and fascinating philosophical meaning.

The South Korea flag is also known as the Taegukgi 태극기 ,when we look at the Korean flag, we see that it consists of three main parts:
1- the white rectangular background
2- the red and blue taeguk symbol in its center
3- the four black trigrams , one in each corner of the flag.
"Trigrams : are symbols of the cycle of yin and yang energy present in all things"

The color white represents peace and purity and symbolized brightness. It’s a traditional color in Korean culture, and back in time it was common color in the daily clothing such as the Hanbok witch is traditional Korean garment.

2- Taeguk symbol in the flag's center, as a circle divided into red and blue sections
the blue section represents negative cosmic forces, while the red section represents the positive cosmic forces. And everything together creates that beautiful colorful taeguk that symbolizes balance and harmony of the world (the Ying and Yang) which represent the flow of all things in the universe.

3- The four black trigrams in each corner
It represent movement and harmony as fundamental principles of life, and each trigram symbolized of:
- the four elements: ☰ heaven, ☷ earth, ☵ water, ☲ fire
- seasons: ☰ spring, ☷ summer, ☵ winter, ☲ autumn
- cardinal direction: ☰ east, ☷ west, ☵ north, ☲ south
- four virtues: ☰ justice, ☷ vitality, ☵ wisdom, ☲ fruition
- family: ☰ father, ☷ mother, ☵ son, ☲ daughter

Overall, the south Korean flag the taegukgi is a vibrant and meaningful symbol, its design reflects the balance between opposing forces in the natural world, as well as embodying the importance of virtues such as justice, harmony, and unity. Which make it a strong representation of the Korean country value and history, culture and ideas. And I think it is fascinating!
